July

We loved having Ky and Brody come for a short visit the week of July 4th.  We gathered at the Skeens in Paradise for a tasty, patriotic breakfast, then went on to Bountiful to hang out at the Call's awesome pool.  They were out of town and graciously let us come and invade their house.  We had a great time swimming and eating.  Thanks Brad and Teresa!

For the 2nd year Mike and I were in charge of the food for APTC- which is a camp for 17-18 year old boys from 4 stakes in Logan.  There were 130 that we cooked 7 meals for, and 1 meal for 250 (parents night).   It was exhausting and a lot of work, but great to be there and feel of the spirit of this missionary training camp.  I loved it.  This first picture is a small sampling of the food we bought and hauled up to Cinnamon Creek. Around $4500 was spent for the 3 1/2 day camp!  Needless to say, everyone ate well.
I loved being up there with Jake for his second year.  The picture on the top left is of him and 3 of his best friends- John, Bretton and Corey.
One of the nights for the 10:30 snack, we made scones.  We had 10 trays like the ones shown here full of scones that we fried.  We had 700 ready to go, but didn't end up needing quite that many.  Teenage boys can sure eat a lot.
We arrived home from the camp on Thursday at 11 am and left 3 hours later for Fort Collins for 3 1/2 days to help Ky and Brody move. They had been living in a nice apartment for the past year, but since their rent was being raised $100 a month, they decided to find something less expensive, so they ended up with this cute duplex. They love only have one shared wall, plus a garage and yard.  On Friday we painted the living room, master bedroom and hallway, then on Saturday we got them all moved and (mostly) settled in.  We still managed to have some fun (not that painting and moving isn't fun. . .  ) in going out to eat and for a walk to get some frozen yogurt, going to their stake Pioneer Day activity, and playing several hours of Rook.  I"m glad we were able to go and help out. Our time with them is always too short but I'm grateful that they're only 7 hours away.
It was nice to come home after such a busy week and have nothing to do but relax.  Jessica was in Logan for 10 days to babysit for two families that she works for (and were having a difficult time surviving without her this summer) a lot when she lives here, so she was busy most of the time with that.  One family has twin 2 year olds and a 5 year old, and the other family has a 5 year old, a 3 year old, and twin 5 month olds!  She is in heaven and hopes and dreams that twins (or triplets) are in the future for her and Brad!  One of the families has a fun swimming pool, so we enjoyed going over there several days to relax and have fun.

On Saturday Cam and I took Jess to SLC to catch her flight back to Texas stopping along the way in Ogden to help the Bundy's load up their truck and trailer with stuff from storage as they make their move to Hyde Park.  We are so excited that they will be living a short 3 miles away.  We spent a few hours at the Fashion Place mall doing some school clothes shopping for Cam before dropping Jess off at the airport.

Jake had a great time in California the weekend after July 4th with his 6 best friends for 9 days.  They went to Disneyland, Six Flags, the beach, and spent 4 days at Comic Con in San Diego.  Going to Comic Con was a dream come true for Jake as this is something he's wanted to do for the past 4 or 5 years.  He had a great time and was so happy he was able to go.  He arrived home at 4 am Monday morning, and left 4 hours later for the 3 1/2 day APTC that we cooked the food for.  The day that was over, he and his friends went to SLC to watch the new batman movie at the IMAX, getting home at 4 am.  Needless to say, his sleeping in the next day until 5 pm was a much needed catch up on sleep!

It's sad knowing that summer is almost over and that August brings with it the start of school for another year.
