best college pals

I had the most fun yesterday meeting my two best college friends for lunch in Ogden. Gayle was visiting from California, and Diane came from Bountiful where she lives. We don't get together often enough, but after two hours we had covered a lot of topics. I love the fun memories we share. My two years at Ricks, Gayle was my next door neighbor. I met her cousin, Diane my first year (it was her second year as she is a year older). When Gayle and I went to BYU, Diane was already there, so we all lived in the same apartment complex our first semester, then our second semester, and summer semester, I lived in Dianes apartment- just a floor down from Gayle. The next year, we all three along with our good friend Kim lived in the basement of a dumpy house, but we still had a blast. Diane and Gayle both got married that summer (I had fun being a bridesmaid to both), so I had my last year at BYU to complete without them- and let me just say- it wasn't much fun.
This is us (in '82) heading to Flaming Gorge for a fun weekend of camping and waterskiing with some of Diane's family.
The three of us took a crazy trip to Steamboat Spring Colorado one winter. We had a blast wearing our matching PJ's and moon boots- of which I still own.
Being crazy at Ricks. It was a stunt like this that resulted in a broken thumb for me. . .
Old friends (not age wise) are the best friends I've always said.

Flashback Friday

This summer when I was organizing some photographs, I came across these pictures of me. The first one from second grade, and the second one right after the birth of Kylee. The kids and I had a great laugh (Brody especially is a fan of the second grade one) and Jake had to be convinced that the second picture is really me. So I offer these two pictures as evidence as to why I should never have short hair. Stacie who does my hair occasionally tries to talk me into going short, but she may give that up now that she's seen these. Who gets their hair cut as short as me when I was pregnant with Kylee and then gets a perm? Someone living in the 80's I guess. . . Hope you all enjoy a good laugh at my expense :)

Memory Lane

Kylee and Jessica Weyerts did this post that I thought would be fun. It's a little game called "Memory Lane"... Here are the directions:
1. As a comment on my blog, leave one (or more!) memory that you and I had together 2. After you've written a memory on my blog, re-post these instructions on your blog and see how many people leave a memory about you. I always love to talk about fun past times and I also love getting comments so this will be a great combination of both!

summer fun

I'm so sad that summer's over halfway over--- it's always so hard to have it end and get back in the routine of school and work. But we won't think about that yet. Here's some pictures of some fun we've been having lately.
Cam throwing some fierce pitches- His team is somehow surviving w/o him this week as he's at scout camp- then the next two weeks he'll play allstars, then it will be time for football!

Cam and friends floating down the canal from Logan Canyon to Lundstrom Park.
Jakes famous face that kept us all laughing on our vacation (it's better in person)
Jess scrapbooking pictures of our vacation.
Mike and Cam having a mean game of badminton. Jake doing what he loves best (during the little time that he's home)

Gone but not forgotten

My Dad died 25 years ago today. Ann organized a sweet get-together last night in Clarkston and invited his siblings, his kids and grandkids, mom, and her siblings. We visited, ate desserts (of course) and shared memories of Dad. It was so neat to hear others' memories and share my own. I was touched by everyone's thoughts. I shared that I loved how he would take the time to have fun with his family even though he was very busy with the farm, teaching school, selling insurance and church work. He would always play basketball with me- "Horse" being our favorite. My memory has it that I usually won. It was so fun to play volleyball with him, jump on the trampoline, and even work together. I loved taking him a quart of ice water out in the field as he was driving the tractor- knowing how much he appreciated it. I loved how called me "teen." He was so fun to go to the grocery store with. He would throw so many treats and goodies in the cart that Mom would usually have to take some out. He could always be counted on to stop at least once on the drive from Rupert to Logan for a treat. He frequently bought me a special gift for Christmas just from him. He was generous and always wanted us to have what we needed. When I was at Ricks and BYU, he would write to me to make sure I had enough money, and several times said he had put an extra $50 in my account "just in case." I am so saddened that Mike and my children never knew him. He was such a fun, energetic, generous, friendly, kind man. I miss and love him so much. I try and live my life so that he would be proud of me.
